Stunning 4K/UHD Player, THX Certified. Can be found for a reasonable price used.
This player may be missing a few features found on the DP-UB820 like displaying the UHD metadata, however I prefer the quality of this player over the DP-UB820. The sound quality and picture quality are stunning, very hard to beat. The player up-scales Blu-Ray and DVD image quality very well, audio output includes 2 channel stereo, 7.1 surround, coaxial, optical and HDMI. This is a THX Certified player (meets Lucas Films standard), the DP-UB820 is not. Great image, limited format compatibility
If you want a player that can handle 4k UHD and Region A/1 Blu Rays/DVDs with spectacular results, you will be over the moon with the Panasonic DMP UB-900. If you want a player that will handle just about anything else, you're probably going to want to purchase something different. Getting it to play region B or C discs is more difficult than other (generally cheaper) models. "Top Menu" alone generally does not work. There are a handful of non-A region discs I cannot figure out how to get it to play at all. As for DVDs, it will not play anything other than R1 or R0 NTSC. Even R0 PAL discs will not play, it does not display or convert PAL. Where it shines, and I mean really shines, is its upconversion of 2k to 4k. This can be genuinely stunning, and is easily the best reason to purchase this player. The RCA outs for surround channels are a big plus as well. In retrospect I would probably go with a different player that can play every video I threw at it (it also will not play SACD or DVDA discs). What it can play however, it's hard to find fault with. Great features

The price was a steal
It's great player, quite. Just keep in mind that this device needs the update. Prior the update I was getting worried thinking it was defective especially how cheap it was. I must assume the heavy price cut was from the lack of knowledge on this device.
