The Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 digital camera is a powerful compact device. It features a 20.1MP, back-illuminated Exmor RS sensor and a shutter speed of up to 1/32,000 of a second. It can record 4K-resolution video and slow-motion video clips at 960 frames per second. Its super-fast hybrid auto-focus system automatically focuses as fast as 0.05 seconds. This is one of the best point and shoot cameras out there.
The Sony RX100V is an excellent small pocketable 1 inch sensor camera. The photos is produces are excellent in image quality. The camera is small enough to fit in your pocket and so I carry it almost everywhere I go. Better control of images than a smart phone and just a great point and shoot. There is more though. You can make this camera more than a point and shoot with the ability to make this camera do what you want it to do with the almost endless choices in the menu system which is admittedly a bit large and to some confusing. It takes a while of use to finally get used to the menu but when you do, this camera can be made to shoot as good as many DSLR cameras. The Sony RX100V is the fifth version of the RX100 series of cameras. The RX100VI is out but a lot of folks prefer the RX100V due to the better range of F stop...1.8 to 2.8 vs 2.8 to 4.5 although the VI has a longer reach with the telephoto lens it has. Most prefer the ability of the 5 to shoot in lower light and so it goes. I enjoy using the Sony RX100V. I made the mistake of selling my first one and missed it so much I got another. Sont quality *and* Sony performance (*and* Sony price tag) - 2 out of 3 ain't bad
I have another Sony compact camera (DSC-HX50V) and it's still works as well as the day I bought it, like almost all of my Sony products. So, even though the RX100 costs a lot, I feel it's worth it. Because, I also have a Ricoh GR (APS-C sensor) that does almost what the RX100 does, however my Ricoh has been plagued by some annoying quality problems. And now that I can compare them myself, I've found the RX100 (even though it is only a 1" sensor), surpasses the IQ of my Ricoh. Also, it has a modest zoom, which is convenient. And it is much quicker in operation. One thing I prefer about my Ricoh, is that even though it's a larger camera overall, it is thinner fron front to back, which fits a little better in my pocket. But the Sony still fits, so it's not a real drawback. One more unexpected benefit, it uses the same batteries as my DSC-HX50V (which is 5 years old). If size and weight are important, the RX100V excels with pro quality.
The RX 100 series has been around a few years, though is updated with a new model every year and a half or so. This particular version is #5 in the series, and represents a good value with most of the advancements without paying ultra-high prices of the new model. Even older models are still expensive compared with "point-and-shoot" cameras which are largely being replaced with improved cameras on telephones. Thus, buyers of the more sophisticated cameras need something considerably better for their particular work. My wife & I do mission work in Haiti. Travel abroad usually means that space and weight are at a premium. Thus, the RX 100 well suits our needs. In Haiti, ground transportation can be challenging, especially to the poorer areas of an already desperately poor country (where our church & school is located). Switching out batteries and memory cards is easy. This is especially critical where we are in areas which have no electricity, or where the power is on only a few hours a day. This particular model has good battery life. We previously had the original RX 100 model but it somehow "got gone" (here, not in Haiti). For a time, we resisted buying another owing to the cost, but ultimately decided that we really needed to get another. Our experience is that the RX 100 is a well made camera (aluminum body) which produces excellent photos. You can get publication quality photos out of the RX 100, or pix which can be enlarged enormously for use in presentations (which we make frequently). Edge-to-edge quality is superior (no image degradation at edges or corners). If you have "Photoshop," you can shoot in the RAW format which is especially well suited for image processing. Video is quite good, also desirable for recording events and making presentations. RX 100 cameras are top of the line for shooting in dark environments, and outperform almost everything out there, unless you jump to the more expensive (but also larger and heavier) fully professional models. Great pocket camera
This little camera is everything I could want in a pocket camera. Small, light, great image quality, and fairly fast auto focus which, due to aging eyes , is very helpful. The best compact camera
Sony Rx100v is one of the best compact ca.era I have used. This one is my secondary camera along with my a7r2. Looks like it will soon be my primary camera unless I'm really wanting and need to use a full frame. Lengthy menus.
This camera is a lot in a small, solid package. There are a plethora of menu settings to fully utilize all the camera features. However, it can be used as a “point and shoot” with generally ok results. A Pro Point & Shoot Camera
Kind of on the high side but really worth the price. I bought the M5 slightly used after the M6 was introduced. Got it for under 700. so that was a great price I think. It is great to hav a pocket camera that you can have with you all the time that will do anything your pro cameras will do. Nice looking camera. Greatest compact digital camera!
The Sony RX100 V is a great compact digital camera. It is easy to carry, full-functional, and takes the highest quality photos! My only wish is that it had a longer zoom range, like 10X or greater, but it is sensational for everyday photos while on vacation or just walking around.
