If you liked The Mamas & Papas even a little bit back in the day, if you are lucky enough to have been around back then, or if you think California Dreaming and Monday, Monday are pretty nice songs, you really should see this video. Watching this I couldn't help thinking they were sort of on a par talent wise, with ABBA. It's unfortunate that they didn't stick together longer because they could have accomplished great things. Especially unfortunate was Cass Elliot's early death at the point where she was just breaking out as a major solo artist. I don't think there's any limit to the heights she might have climbed on her own, unlike Joplin who went slowly, actually not so slowly downhill after leaving Big Brother. Anyway, this video is packed with so much great stuff from a band that was only around a few years, anyone with any appreciation for the Rock/Pop music of the late 60s owes it to themselves to see this. You won't be disappointed.
From the Canyon ... to the World. The Mamas and The Papas
A small look at the historical meeting, organization, and rise of a great band who would lead our music in exciting, new directions. John Phillips, Denny Doherty, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips comprised this exciting group. With interviews and great stories ... it is a must for any Mamas and Papas fan. Well done.
