Dark story with multiple plot lines has wonderful characters and a fairly accurate period setting.
I was unsure before I saw this series if it would turn out to be good, bad or a stinker. I was wrong on all counts as I loved it and think it was well done. I really liked the character of Lt. Hodiak and the policewoman he mentors during the series! If you are looking for complete historical accuracy concerning the Tate murders, (these are shown in the later part of the series), this is not for you. Instead read the book Helter Skelter or see the excellent movie on the subject for complete accuracy. However, if you like over the top characters (Manson and his "family" are good examples of this) dream -like sequences during the various parties the people have, as well as the endings of the episodes where surprising things usually happen,you have a good value in the show. I was very disappointed when NBC chose not to continue the series for at least another 2 or 3 seasons, especially when they keep other things on that aren't nearly as good as this one was. Series two was even better than series one
The second series of Aquarius was even better than season One. It is much better having the entire series with no comercial breaks. I love the historical background, the musical score and the actual crimes that occured that same year. The main actors are perfect for the part and they are certainly not perfect people.
