A quirky foodie's delight
Tampopo starts off well enough with a unique opening that immediately breaks the fourth wall and sets a tone of weird coolness. The movie continues to be entertaining enough until after about the 45 minute mark where it begins being weird for the sake of being weird and oddly enough, starts to take the subject of ramen way too seriously. This dramatic tonal shift is what utterly disappointed me as by the end of the flick I didn't understand many of the characters motivations, or care for that matter, and I wasn't charmed into caring about the art of ramen with the movies initially touted funiness/charm.
