Excellent condensed version of four Shakespeare plays
As plays Henry VI comes in three parts, and then there is Richard III. This adaptation condenses all these plays into one drama with two parts, making the massive undertaking intelligible and reasonably fit for our times. There are discordant notes. Queen Margaret was not a black woman, nor were there black people running around in England at the time of these plays. You can do a historically accurate production, or you can do a modern production with race neutral casting. Historic dress or modern dress, Shakespearean language or contemporary lingo. But you should be consistent and not mix things up. Anyway, the overall production is excellent, and all the actors are very good, including the black woman (Sophie) if you overlook her being out of place historically. I was really impressed by Hugh Bonneville as the Lord Protector of the youthful Henry. Cumberbatch is outstanding, as expected. A lot of things were cut out. I missed the line about killing all the lawyers which always gets a hoot when the play is shown on stage. Great movie
