Dazzling storytelling, so-so story
A fine restoration of this rare movie. I like the score quite a bit, even though it's not strictly period sounding. As to the film itself - the camera work, montages, creative title cards and atmosphere are all exceptional. The opening montage of Broadway footage is amazing and gets the film off to a great start. Unfortunately, the story itself is a bit incoherent - overly complicated and filled with silly red-herrings. It's all fun, but if the story was as strong as the telling this would be an all-time classic.
