Nice hardware, but poor execution of the software that runs it.
I bought this to replace my aging media player where the software hadn't been updated by the manufacturer for well over a year.
I was quite excited by the player's specs, and the fact it was still supported by Zidoo.
Out of the box the machine updated it's firmware and we were off and running.
I have a 10 bay USB3 JBOD with my media spread across 5 drives, which it did recognise, but when adding the pathways to the various libraries the poster wall kept freezing and crashing the machine, therefore needing a full power off/on to reset it.
It never really recovered from that, so I reset back to factory settings and tried again, almost setting the poster wall up file by file. Still it didn't work and kept crashing. Direct playback of the files also had issues causing hang ups. I know the files are fine as they work on my original player.
The most annoying aspect was when pressing the left cursor pad on the remote kept putting my amp, a Yamaha, on mute. Obviously a problem with the IR codes the Zidoo uses. One of the other keys would switch the amp off, but it wasn't a button that would be used often, if at all.
I really wanted this box to work for me, but after a few hours of trying to set things up, moving things around, I couldn't get this to do what I wanted it to do.
A combination of issues that meant it wasn't useable in its current state.
So, nice hardware, just the software running the media side and the remote controller problem meant it had to go back. Shame really. I was expecting big things from the Z9S.
