  • Great valuefor the price

I purchased the Beeman P17 pistol (same as the 2004) for about $35.00. I liked the single stroke cocking, the ease of maintenance accessibility, the fiber optic sights, and the fit and feel of the pistol. I would like a more positive detent for the safety and would have preferred to have it on the right side vs. the left side, but do not regard this as an overly negative point as it is easy to get used to. The loading/insertion of the pellet into the barrel might be a little difficult for those with large hands and fingers. My hands are small, so I had no problem reaching into the open "slide" to insert the pellet. The barrel has no chamfer on the pellet insertion end, so that means inserting a flat match-type pellet can be a little challenging. Inserting a pointed pellet is a bit easier. The best pellet I've found so far for accuracy is the RWS Meisterkugeln 7.0 grain pistol pellet, next favorite is the Crosman Destroyer EX 7.4 grain pellet. I am able to shoot a 3/8" wide three shot group at ~25 feet after a mild tune-up. I shoot with the pistol butt resting on a sand bag. Tune-up includes piston removal, de-burr and polish, removing all factory grease and oil and re-lube the piston with a light coating of Teflon grease, barrel removal and chamfer and radius both ends of the barrel, replacing the barrel and piston o-rings, and adjusting the barrel to gasket clearance. As others have said, there is virtually ZERO recoil. Overall this is a very enjoyable pistol and lots of fun to shoot. I now have two of these pistols, one with a red dot sight and one with a Weaver K3 scope. I can easily hit fist sized cans freehand out to 40+ feet, and I shake a lot.

  • Beeman P17 Fun single shot one pump .177 pistol. Nice trigger.

These are copies of the much more expensive Beeman P3 (Weihrauch) made in Germany. At 1/10 the price of the P3 you get 85% of the performance. This is not quite a match grade pistol, but it's really accurate and hits pretty hard at an actual 375 or so fps with lead pellets. I am not a huge fan of the look of the fiber optic sights, but they are helping out as the eyes get older. Trigger is adjustable, and is really good for the price. It is much better than the Crosman 1022 type trigger when both are compared out of the box. It does have an optics rail for dovetail sights, but it is plastic and mounting a scope makes it really hard to pump. I'd avoid the one with the cheesy red dot that comes as a package. This is a fun 10 yard shooter. I had to fix both of mine when they started refusing to pump. It has to do with the alignment of the mechanism, but it's an easy fix and they have both worked great since. There is a lot of Youtube info on how to do this.

  • Strength training with a pistol...

Most complaints about this model are about loading pellets and pumping the pneumatic piston. Whomever is unable to load a pellet is going to have the same issues with other models. I loaded up a few different shaped pellets, both lead and non lead. Not one problem... Pumping this gun however is difficult to say the least and why this gun is not 5 stars. Getting it open without damaging the finish was my first challenge. After the first couple of times it got easier but wow... Closing the assembly to charge the piston reminded me of a flimsy exercise fad device from the 1980s. Using anything on the top rail of this gun is pointless in my opinion because anything you attach will feel the brunt of the massive pressure required to close this thing. Like opening it, this got a little easier but still a decent workout for a grown man. Since I researched this before buying, it was not a shock. What was a surprise is how big this is and how difficult shopping for a holster is. You need a large holster, this thing makes a Desert Eagle look like a Derringer. Shooting seems fine, accuracy and power within the claims of the manufacturer as best as I can determine in the field. Price was right, build quality seems solid and this thing is ergonomic despite it's cartoon like size. I am usually not a fan of goofy over sized pistols bit this does not make you feel absurd when you hold it. Overall a great deal and a welcome addition to my collection.

  • Great quality, low price

Single- pump pneumatic means good power without the vibration of a springer. The air chamber is under the full-length barrel, making for a more compact package. Light Gathering Sights are fully adjustable, and grip angle brings them on target naturally. Two stage trigger is very crisp, at about two pounds. This is the most accurate air powered target pistol one can buy at this price. If the shooter does his part, it’ll hold its own among air pistols three or four times the price.

  • Best Bang for the buck

This pistol shoots as well as my Gamo Compact, Berman P11, and my Avanti 747, at a fraction of the cost. The non adjustable trigger is fine, and after a touch of Teflon based lube, as good as the other target pistols. After having over 500 shots through her she groups off a rest at 10m(33') at0.04" CTC with a 5 shot group. With the wrong pellet these groups can be more like 3". Mine loves Beeman's coated wadcutters. As with most airguns, 1; they won't shoot their best untill broke in. 2; their accuracy will very with different pellets. Velocity is not everything, accuracy is almost alwaysore important. The fiber optic sights may not be the best target sights, but they are great plinking sights. This pistol should with head shots, dispatch small varmits (pidgions, rats, even that rabbit in your garden). With a set of target sights it can keep up with the sub $500 target pistols. Being compressed air vs spring powered, it is easier and more accurate than any of the break barrel pistols to shoot. Draw backs, 1; very tight area for loading your pellets. Only my Triumph 747 loads easier, but it is not as powerful. 2; as hard to cock as the P11 or Gamo. P11 has a little more power, but costs about $480 more. 3; has dovetail mounting on the top, but if you mount a pistol scope or red dot, it will be in the way for cocking. 4; you have to be careful not to close the breach by the rear sight, a cocking aid could be a great improvement, but I have not seen one available for this gun. 5; keep you fingers etc out of the area where the barrel and frame come together when closing the breach. This area cun really pinch a finger or anything else in the way when closing the breach. OUCH! I would love to see them make a .22 version of this pistol. Great pistol for target shooting, pest control, or just plinking. It should be in everyone's air gun collection. It is a Chinese copy of the Berman P3. Only the trigger is not adjustable. Since the trigger is fine, do you really want to spend another $200 just so you can adjust the trigger? This pistol is inexpensive enough you can take it fishing, camping, etc and not worry about it like you would an expensive one. Although you may like it better and surely use it more. Ammo, mine likes SwissAir pointed pellets, wadcutters from 7-8 grains. It shoots RWS Hallow Points fine, but not enough power to expand them. You're better off with a wadcutter and accurate head shots. Cheap to buy, cheap to shoot. This will be your favorite air pistol, unless you splurge and get a pcp and scuba tank for filling it.

  • Best bang for the buck.

Great accuracy, fantastic trigger and best adjustable sight on all my airguns. Build quality great and over 400 FPS on my chronograph. Does take a fair amount or cocking power but that results in it's high velocity.

  • Best air pistol I've ever used.

Very accurate, powerful, and well made. Only things that could be an issue for some people is the need for muscle to cock the pistol, and loading the pellet isn't as easy as others. For me the positives far far far out weigh the negatives. I've used several other air pistols over the years that cost much more then this one but I like this one much much more to the point of buying a second one.

  • Great lil pea shooter

Cool looking good weight, be careful cocking it takes a lil oomph, accurate, great value. Tighten screws and lubricate bit more. Trigger great. May buy another one and make it a carbine.

  • Another classic.

This Beeman Model 2004 now called the P17 is an internals copy of the German made P1 (475.00+) an exact copy of the US/Chinese P3 (275.00+) and the forerunner to the current Chinese P17 (69.00+). Since they all are capable of shooting far better than most shooters I was amazed to find this deal. As far as I can tell it looks brand new.

  • cheap to buy but superb to shoot

well, this pistol has 425fps out of the box plus adjustable sights with lite pipes. mine with .7 crossman pellets puts one on top of another at 50ft. it has been easy for me to load a pellet by feel. closing it is a little hard but well worth the time. she feels right in my hand because there are no thumb rests on the grips. i have other pistols that cost way more but i feel that the p17 is just worth way more than it.s cost. mine has a 3lb trigger pull outta the box and i removed the auto saftey, but hey im an old shooter and i am way more carefull as none of my air pistols had an auto saftey. the sights are a delight for old eyes and there is no recoil at all, none. try that with a springer. i may buy a backup p17 just for the future.
