Almost eliminated the G string dead spot.
I bought this hoping to eliminate the infamous "G string 5th fret dead spot" on my P Bass. It did stop the 5th fret problem, but I can hear it now on the 6th fret. It's not as bad as it was, and most people won't notice at all when I play live. Was it an improvement? Definitely. DId it totally fix the problem? No. Was it worth it? Yes. Getting the dead spot off of the 5th fret made it worth the minimal investment. I play a lot of Classic Rock in major keys, so having that "C" note ring clear made a big difference for me.

Clean up fret buzz
Fit and finish is excellent. Hipshot products usually are. It took the buzz out of the A string on my J bass. That was the reason I bought it. I found a cheap Chinese one for 1/3 of the price. I'm sure that would do the same job. It wouldn't have the same quality

Good for Fender MIM bass
The A string on my early 90s Fender MIM Precision Bass had no break angle and was buzzing. I took off the stock string tree and added this for the A, D and G and now everything is correctly angled.

IT HELD STRINGS.
There's really not much to say about this. It's a bass string retainer. If you're looking at this product, you already know what it does, and what it's for. It totally works. It holds three bass strings down at an angle to give better tension behind the nut, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER STRING RETAINER.
