Peace of Mind - System is backed up
I am so happy that I made the purchase of the Synology DS414. I have my, all so important, computer system schedule to be backed up on a regular bases with RAID capability, and with the cloud storage, I no longer fear losing my data or a hard drive crash. This is very important to me since I am an IT professional and depend on my computer system to make a living. Also, I love the additional software options available with this device. Faster than any Synology I have seen yet.
I have been using Synology NAS units since the x10 series. They worked but were slower than I desired. For instance, then took 24 hours to initialize 4 drives and a very long time to load up. Now, 6 generations later... The 416 only took about 15 hours to initialize and loads up at 950Mb/s. If the weather was not so hot, I would be finished soon. To keep them safe, I shut down all servers at 80º ambient even though with the fan on high, the drives are kept safely cool. I am just paranoid, I guess. The box is VERY easy to load drives into with plastic, snap-on dowels instead of screws for no-screwdriver installs. Everything to like. Runs all the standard stuff with DS software and is nicely fast. I highly recommend this if you want a huge (up to 30TB) of RAID storage in a single box.
