after about 10 years since i last used dvb-s card (skystar2) i've decided to get this primarily to watch uefa cl matches since internet streams sucked with their poor video quality and large delays. setting it up wasn't the easiest mainly because i didn't know how dvb applications interact with this card's chipset (all of the apps i've tried had some bugs - dvbviewer, progdvb, altdvb, dvbdream) but on the first day already managed to scan few channels on astra. and next day already scanned most of them and was able to watch tv channels. watching uefa cl also had advantages over classic dvb-t channels, better video quality and dvb-t channel was delayed about 5-7 seconds compared to dvb-s stream. if you have powerful enough CPU and GPU you can also watch 4K channels and these have quite impressive video quality (just like HDTV promo channels had in the beginning some 15years ago when they were compressed in MPEG2 format - most of the HDTV H264 channels streamed today via satellite do not match those quality standards) there was no CD included with the item i bought but after downloading official pctv center application and installing i found it is not very convenient as you can't easily update transponder list (not sure if possible at all) so i used it only for one thing - to verify the remote controller is working as other apps require additional drivers and i had no time for dealing with that since remote is not that important in my case. next i tried to run it on linux and tvheadend recognized the card and was able to stream channels, so i compiled openwrt image for my archer c7 router with required kernel modules and tvheadend app. it worked great and it allowed me to stream these channels via wireless, in short testing we streamed 4 different channels (they must be on same transponder) to 4 different devices. one thing that remains mystery for now is that some channels stutter and are impossible to watch, mainly on hotbird but there are few on other satellites too, and their SNR was very good so it must be something else causing problems (maybe LNB or coax cable, or different combination of demuxer/decoders is needed). included power supply must be used too (at least with equipment i have) otherwise you get unstable SNR levels.
