Needed Some Tweaking In Order To Work Properly
For reloading I always buy Lee dies. MOST OF THE TIME they work great right out of the box. Sometimes they need to be tweaked and if they are bad enough they get sent back.
In this case, my neck-sizer die had so many machining marks on the interior surfaces that the collet would get snagged on the ridges caused by the cutting tool they used to machine the components. This meant that the collet would not crimp down on the mouth of my brass in order to bring it back down to the proper dimension.
Another thing was that the diameter of the rod that the collet crimps the brass down onto was slightly larger in diameter than spec. This meant that even after I fixed the machining burrs and the collet crimped all the way down, I was still left with case mouths openings that were to big. My bullets could be seated by finger-pressure alone. I had to turn down that rod to the proper diameter to get the neck tension to hold my bullets in place.
It took some de-burring and some polishing to get it to work. It's frustrating to have to fix something that's brand new. If you know what you are doing it's an easy fix but, not everyone is willing or able to do so.
