Perfect!!!
I lived in the small village where this movie was put together and filmed. I see people I know in the movie and it brings back memories. I was pregnant at the time and could walk the short ways to where the set was. My husband was one of the town group people so I could have lunch with him and visit with everyone. I love watching the movie and I thank Robert Redford for all his efforts. I hadn't seen him since the filming of The Saga of Jerimiah Johnson in Utah; another great movie!!

One of the best-ever American movies
Redford's direction and Nichols' screen writing plus universally excellent acting made this a movie I've seen several times and will continue to watch every few years. I live where many of the scenes were shot. I seldom write reviews but this is a movie everyone should see.

The movie tells the age-old story,"if you make something Paradise, kiss it goodbye."
In 2019, the Dave Grusin soundtrack for "The Milagro Beanfield War" seems too laid back and somewhat dated. But the story and acting are top rate. It really seems as if Robert Redford found an actual town with real people to tell this story, and did not populate a set with a bunch of mechanical actors to get the job done. Even the big-name folk do well here. Perhaps with exception of Melanie Griffith, who never meshes with the story. The allegorical character of death is played ever so perfectly, even fooling the wise old man at the end. Never have we seen a movie with a bunch of low-riders picking beans in a beanfield! Great characters! Reuben Blades as the "trying my hardest to keep the peace" sheriff is superb. Nothing gets past Sonia Braga. A great cast with a loveable story of death and destruction!

True Story: struggles of San Luis Valley farmers
A true story of the plights and fights of small farmers in New Mexico, and the San Luis Valley communities. The struggles with political corruption, droughts, water access, large farm conglomerates, corporate greed, land grab attemps, starvation, cheating, bribery, exploitation practices, and BIGOTRY! This story demonstrates, the love and loyalty of the land by it's people. Loyalties messured in generations of community, of family and family friends. The complicated manifesting processes, that are at work in the face of conflict, poverty, and outsider intrusion. And, in this one story, a happy ending. Where the poor prevail, by uniting together to help a local rebellious hero.. bucking the system!

Fantastic Movie (and book)
One of my favorite movies! Fabulous cast and storyline. I watch this movie over and over again and always find something to love about it.

Love this movie!
Even though this movie was made in the 1980s, it is relevant today. With warmth, empathy, and humor, it addresses issues of racism, land development, and environmental concerns. It is one of my favorite movies. I watch it over and over.

Great subtitles.
Bought this to see if the subtitles included the Spanish dialogue - they do, so now I can find out what the angel and Amarante are talking about, by copying down the Spanish and then translating to English. Arriba, arriba!
