Sounds excellent with tons of features
I have tried tons of delay pedals over the years (been playing semi pro since the early 90s). There's often a trade off between versatility and sound. I need several delay sounds in a set -- a tempo "Edge" type of sound, an ambient analog/tape sound for solos, a slapback sound, a spring reverb surf sound, a modulated sound, etc. This one does all of them and they all sound great. Maybe it's because I'm used to the Boss/Roland interface but I find this pedal a bit easier to navigate and program than the Strymon Timeline -- which I also owned but eventually sold because I found it a bit difficult to use. It also fits pretty well on my PedalTrain PT Jr. with 6 or 7 other smaller effects. My only critiques so far would be that the angle of the switches is a little too steep when mounted in the second row of effects. But overall I'm happy and I consider this a permanent addition to my rig (well for now at least!).

Excellent Advancement in Delays
Boss hit the mark to make a high-end delay that's affordable. There are more programs than you'll ever need in this delay and the sound is fantastic. I've seen it compared to the Strymon Timeline, which is about double the price, and it compares very well. It has a host of delay types to dial in just the right sound that you're looking for. It's also VERY easy to edit and program, I didn't even read the manual, just started using it right away.

Awesome delay pedal!!
The Boss DD-500 delay pedal is one of the best on the market. Being an owner of the Boss MD-500 modulation pedal, I was aware of the endless possibilities via the parameter adjustments of this Boss series, and was very familiar with the pedal layout, how to adjust parameters, and using the editor software on a computer. The numerous presets and parameters can be intimidating, but I developed a systematic way to find usable parameters and how to set them for what was needed personally, as well as how to put them in memory locations that were easy to access for my needs. Start with a spreadsheet with all the parameters listed by preset # and name, a column for personal rating (1-10) and one for comments. NOTE: Ver. 2 of firmware has uses banks 1 - 40 for factory presets, then repeats these presets in banks 41 - 80. Banks 81 - 99 are empty). Go thru all the preset banks 1 - 40 and fill in the spreadsheet. Making adjustments to presets while going thru them (without saving) can identify presets that you may like but are just not adjusted to your taste - note this as well. When done, write presets you like in the lower banks in an order that makes sense for your needs and saving your favorites to adjacent banks makes it much easier to find them when you need. *Also create columns in spreadsheet for your presets that show what is where so you can find them easily. The pedal presets can then be saved from the pedal via the editor software. Much more to learn and say about this great pedal, but best to just get one and start having fun!!

BOSS DD-500 - Great Delays!!
I am not a super picky effect user, mostly I play with a tube screamer and some reverb. I've used the TC Flashback for years and while it's a great pedal, you really have to dial it up to get the most out of it. For live purposes its very limiting. I wanted something that gave me delay options on the floor, and after researching reviews and video demos, I settled on the DD-500. Right off the bat I was impressed with the fullness of the delay effect, even at a low mix, you feel its presence. The variations are endless and easy to program patches in the order you want for live performance. BOSS nailed it with this unit. With all the super expensive boutique pedals out there, it's great that you can get such a well made, versatile and usable delay at a reasonable cost! I highly recommend this pedal to anyone who wants more control over how you use delay effects in your live performance. I think it will inspire you to create new sounds and help put a new spin on some old licks.

Top level delay pedal
Excellent delay. I've owned at least a dozen different delay pedals - this is the best I've used. Sounds are great, easy to edit the presets. I got mine for about $250 ... at that price I consider it a bargain.

Holy delay
Very modular guitar pedal that allows you to tweak it. Can be programmed in depth using the pedal by itself.

Every Possible Delay Right At Your Feet
The Boss DD-500 is simply amazing. The possibilities seem endless and yet I have only begun to scratch the surface of what it's capable of. Boss has been a staple within the guitar community for decades and they rarely if ever disappoint. Their pedals are always well-built and the DD-500 is surely no exception. I don't doubt it will give me years of fun and beautiful sounds.

Awesome Pedal
Best pedal of its kind that I have ever owned. Very intuitive, easy to setup. Dependable and worth every cent I paid for it.

So tweakable; great tone
Granted this pedal requires that you spend time with it, but it is worth it. I've tried quite a few delays and sold them; I just couldn't bond with them. I think this one is a keeper.

Everything you could want in a delay
I haven’t had a strymon but I have been through delay pedals and this one covers all the bases I need. Take your time with the settings and you can get some wild effects.
