Vera at her best.
This is the last book in the series of seven Ann Cleeves books featuring Vera Stanhope. The author has developed the key characters of this series so this is a fine example of compelling prose. As usual Vera is animated by a murder enquiry, driven to find the culprit in her own unique way. It's a terrific read with great dialogue and psychological insights before finishing in an impossible to predict conclusion.
