One of the Best albums I have
This album is not only a superb collection of exceptional delta blues tunes performed by the then last of the genre's progenitors, it is also a timepiece.
Included in the nearly 30 tracks are audio clips by Honeyboy himself recalling his life experiences as an itinerant musician, a 1941 recording of Alan Lomax introducing Mr. Edwards, and a couple other surprises (sorry....no spoiler alerts here).
David "Honeyboy" Edwards knew, played with, learned from and traveled with names that are enshrined on the Mt. Rushmore of the blues: Charley Patton, Son House, Robert Johnson, Big Joe Turner, Walter Horton, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Blind Willie McTell, Chester Burnett....I could go on, but you get the drift. In fact, Mr. Edwards was with Robert Johnson the night Johnson's whiskey was murdered by his whiskey having been laced with strychnine (ostensibly by the jealous husband of a woman with whom Johnson had a trist).
In short this is a terrific album, a time capsule, a history lesson and an hour of enveloping entertainment all rolled into one....so pour yourself a wee dram of your favorite and get ready for a superb trip down memory lane Delta style.
