Macro to Moon, All Rounder Camera.
Awesome Camera. Attached image for Comparison. One is Kodak Astro Zoom with 42x Optical Zoom and the other is 125x Coolpix. Photo are superb, Macro to Moon. It has DSLR like capabilities. Only con is Bulk of a Camera, but that is expected for SuperZomm and Wide Angle Camera.

Fun Toy for landscapes and moon shots!
I have a lot of cameras from small sensor to full frame so i knew what i was getting myself into. Considering the size of the sensor i was pleasantly surprised with the quality, specially in RAW. I like it
I was surprised at how big it is--would not be a good camera for someone with small hands, especially considering it weighs right at three pounds. At first I was a little disappointed in photo quality until I added a UV filter, which seemed to make a big difference, plus it protects the lens. Most of my photos are landscapes and of birds and animals. The problem with birds and animals is getting close enough to snap a good clear photo. With this camera that's not as much of a problem., and the anti shake is better than my Sony (which is quite old, so that's not really fair.). I believe the weight of the camera also helps with stabilization. Prior to the P1000 I had a Coolpix B500 which I found disappointing due to only having a screen, which is useless in bright light, plus I found it hard (impossible) to track birds in flight using the screen. Does not connect to device with latest software.
Being able to connect to a smart device wirelessly to access photos and videos was an important consideration for me when I bought this camera. This feature no longer works. In attempting to connect, you experience the frozen progress bar where nothing happens until you get frustrated and cancel. Check the latest reviews of SnapBridge, the Nikon app, in the AppStore. They all echo this review. In the description of the latest version of the app (2.6.2), Nikon acknowledges the connection issue. This version was released 4 months ago! Lightweight, high quality, and versatile camera!
Once you get the menu settings the best for the way you use the camera, and you learn to control the zoom capabilities, the camera is a dream! I struggled the first time I used it before learning the menus and zoom, but I quickly adjusted to the differences in this camera. The image quality is the same or better than the mirrorless cameras I have seen, and better than some DSLR cameras, but cannot match the quality of high end DSLR cameras and lenses. But my big lens on my DSLR was just too heavy, so the weight reduction in the field is worth it. The versatility to go from 24mm to 3000mm can't be beat! I appreciate the ability to save my photos in RAW format, too. The materials and workmanship are top notch. Fun camera for playing !!
Absolutely love it !!!!!! First time I used it was when we went fishing in the boat. Got the best pictures of geese, turtles sunning, a beaver swimming, fish we're catching. Great camera for travel.
Love this camera. It shoots in Raw and the quality is really great. I love the zoom from 24-3000. You don't need any other cameras or lenses. If you are shooting out past 1000 you should use a tripod. If the shutter speed exceeds 1000 it can get a little grainy. It is not light! But on the whole the camera is a great solution for traveling with minimal equipment.

IF YOU WANT TO USE THIS PROFESSIONALLY......MAYBE.......IF YOUR LIKE ME, A DOCUMENTER , FREE LANCE LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER.........ABSOLUTELY PICK THIS CAMERA. YOU CAN'T BEAT THE MAGNIFICATION OF THE GLASS. THEIRS IS NOTHING WITHIN 1500FT THAT YOU CAN'T BRING IN FOCUS , UP CLOSE AND PRODUCE A GOOD PICTURE........THIS CAN GO BEYOND THIS AS WELL. THIS IS LIKE YOUR CELL PHONE BUT WITH A HIGH POWERED TELESCOPIC LENS ATTACHED TO IT....I LOVE IT. ...I DIDN'T CARE FOR BIRDWATCHING.....NOW I LOVE IT... Great camera.
This camera is ideal for an all round camera with a 24mm to 3000mm equivalent lens. Not the same as a full high end DSLR but non the less great for the photographic enthusiast.
