The ASUS 29-inch MX299Q is a full panoramic monitor that will enhance whatever you’re watching on its screen. The sharp 2560x1080 resolution gives you high definition with an incredibly wide field of view. The ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio is the equivalent of two 17-inch 5:4 monitors placed next to each other, which is a 33 percent increase over traditional 16:9 widescreen monitors in the same class. So whether you’re gaming, watching movies, or just want a little more real estate for your computing tasks, the MX299Q’s wide screen has you covered. The monitor uses LED-backlit AH-IPS technology for the display. The IPS technology was designed as an upgrade for LCD displays to correct some of the limitations of the matrix LCD displays, which were primarily narrow viewing angles and low-quality color accuracy. AH-IPS, or Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching, was developed in 2011 to improve on color accuracy further. It also increases resolution and decreases power usage. The contrast ratio is 80,000,000:1, and it can hit a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m2. The monitor also uses the ASUS SPLENDID Video Intelligence technology, which is a color engine designed to assess whatever you’re using the monitor for at the moment and adjust the display to best suit that purpose. And if you’re planning on using this monitor for multi-tasking, you’ll have access to ASUS MultiFrame software, which helps you organize your desktop when managing multiple windows. And let’s face it: If you can’t organize your multi-tasking, you’re probably defeating the purpose. As a result, the ASUS MX299Q gives you brilliant color without driving your electric bill through the roof and boasts a 178-degree viewing angle, so you won’t have to get out of your seat or move around so you can see the screen "just right." Gamers, in particular, will enjoy the extra wide field of view, because you’ll get a better chance to see your opponents coming, and in video games, that can mean the difference between staying alive and losing your last life. Your audio experience will get an upgrade as well, as the MX299Q also features built-in SonicMaster audio. Co-developed with Bang & Olafson’s ICEpower studio, the sound system features an embedded Bang & Olafson ICEpower MobileSound 3 chip and 5W amplifiers for each channel, resulting in rich, textured audio. Connectivity is a breeze with the MX299Q, as it features DisplayPort, Dual-link DVI, HDMI, and MHL connections. MHL is a single-cable connection for compatible smartphones, so this monitor offers connections for a very wide range of accessories. It also features audio in and a headphone jack for audio accessories, so you won’t have to fiddle with inputs behind your computer, which can really be a pain if it’s sitting on the ground under your desk – you can just plug your headphones straight into your monitor.
