A Good Batman Version
There are 2 things worth noting about this movie: 1)It is NOT a movie about Bruce Wayne's Grandpa as some kind of early version Batman. Rather, the entire cast and crew of present day Batman - Batman, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, Selena Kyle, etc - are all set in 1890's Gotham, as if it had always been that way from the beginning. No time travel is involved; it's just an alternate storyline, and 2)This is an adult comic book fan oriented movie with 4-letter words galore and suggestive sex scenes.
Having established the above, it is a very good movie that moves fairly quickly thru the storyline. And here Batman is far less invincible than in other versions. The main protagonist in the movie is a former bare-knuckle John L. Sullivan style boxing champion, and he more than holds his own against the Batman, even beats him in a couple of one-on-one encounters. Also less tek gadgets too. Batman seriously comes across as a masked nighttime vigilante, who is only slightly above average when it comes to both street fighting and detective skills. Since Batman by definition isn't super-powered, I found this version more believable.
All-in-all a good addition for the Batman video series collector.
