Chromeboxes are the best!
Having deployed several Chromeboxes with various types of installations, I've gotten pretty comfortable with them. They're fast, quiet, and don't consume much power. I've used both ChromeOS and have reflashed many to use Ubuntu. All of them are still running strong to this day. "Reliable as to what it's worth BUT not a real PC"
This small "cute" box is basically a Chrome browser which allows one's Internet access in a quite efficient way; BUT, the so called Chrome Web Store resource is so poor if your looking for the real toppers, I mean, it's kind of BIZARRE what it's happening when a device is capable of reaching much more stuff than what they let you (Google this time!!!) obtain from the apps free market. If you can afford buying this item for just covering desktop-like Internet experience in a big display Go ahead, otherwise, if you pretend to install or stream media intended applications using this box as an interface then don't even think about it. Great solution for using a keyboard with TV
The MU004U was very much as described in other reviews I read about Chomeboxes. It boots up fast, unlike our DVD player and works great with an Logitech K400 keyboard. No more fat fingering the single buttons of a DVD remote for YouTube or a Netflix search. The only negative I have is the ON button is the corner of the M004U is like a touch screen and takes me couple of tries to turn it on. Best alternative for desktop PC for in-home learning.
Nowadays in home learning is the new normal and having an affordable desktop is high demand - Chromebox fills this gap. If you have an old USB mouse, USB keyboard, headset or an old set of PC speakers then you are all set! Display connection is HDMI only - you may need to buy a DVI or DVI-D to HDMI cable if your monitor is old. Does not come with all the connections you will need it just comes with the power cable. If you have an old PC like me and want to replace it, a Chromebox is a great alternative for basic Internet browsing. Chrome OS is fast and less bloated than Microsoft junk. After plugging the Chromebox via Ethernet or WiFi Chrome OS will do an auto update - this will prompt you to restart the device and it will have the latest OS. You can initiate update manually by going to the Settings - search Chrome OS How to update on Google if you need assistance. Connecting to a printer can be tricky and needs a little bit of know how for wireless connectivity. Connection via USB port for printer never worked for me - I have an old HP printer. Pros: affordable, fast, easy setup, space saver. Con: need external storage for high capacity memory, driver compatibility (keyboard, printer, other peripherals), not designed for multiplayer gaming, apps limited to Chrome Web store. Chromeboxes are great and they can run Linux too!

Exactly what we needed
It is exactly what my family needed! I had an old iMac from 2013 that was basically the family computer after it became to obsolete for me to use for work, but with COVID last year and schools going into quarantine I had to get chromebooks for the kids. My wife still used the iMac but was growing frustrated every day. I eventually loaded Linux Mint on it which vastly improved the overall performance, but my wife, who is not tech savvy, was still struggling with it. I was spending many evenings doing tech support at home while having just spent the whole day doing tech support at work...it was draining me. So, having had enough, I replaced the iMac with the Chromebox and well...it just works. No issues, my wife gets it, my gets get it, they can (if they choose to) use it for school or their personal accounts...no more wondering why it won't print...it just prints, no more sudo passwords required for frequent updates. End of life Chrome OS
Had I done more research, I would have realized that this unit was not the "straight out of the box" solution I was looking for. Asus Chromebox
The original owner had added an extra 2 gig of ram and the thing is gratifyingly fast. The fact that it is so easy to add extra ram makes this one of the product's many desirable features. If you know how to use Chromeos there is no reason to own a big desktop again, and the chromebox makes a big screen tv much more useful immediately.
