American romantic drama
Adrift is a true story based on events that took place in 1983.later chronicled in a book by Tami Oldham .What gives the movie momentum is a dual narrative structure beginning with the aftermath of the hurricane that left Tami stranded , then the flashing back to her meeting Richard her partner on the journey. This creates an element of suspense about the moment when the crisis happened as well as the prospect of being rescued. It also turns Adrift into a reasonably effective love story. Adrift and slow
The movie is slow going but it’s done in a way to draw you further into the severity of the issue without throwing a man eating shark or pirates in the mix. It’s the true story of an epic journey of survival that both Shailene Woodley and Sam Carlin portray with true depth. It goes beyond being yet another stranded at sea film. I actually enjoy the time and effort put in to making sure we feel the pain of these characters before the film is over and when the credits roll you feel like you’ve just watched something worth while.
