The best non-graphing calculator I've seen yet. Intuitive interface, crisp display, and solar powered too! :-)
I've owned quite a few different calculators over the years and have found that the Casio models in particular are very easy to use. The Classwiz FX-991EX is no exception. If you've used the FX-300 / FX-115 ES or ES+ models before, you should feel right at home. The most used functions are the most accessible with a single button press, followed by slightly lesser used functions using the SHIFT key. Each mode (matrix, vector, statistics, etc.) has its own contextual features which are found in a menu displayed with the options button (OPTN). Equations can be entered just like you would in a textbook, including integrals, derivatives, summations, proper and improper fractions, and more. While this is not a CAS (Computer Algebraic System) calculator, it is very capable of solving simultaneous equations, working with complex numbers, and handling matrix and vector math. Compared to the FX-115ES that I had before, the FX-991EX is several times faster, so they have upgraded the processor on this one, yet it is still able to run off solar power when needed. The calculator doesn't have RPN (Reverse Polish Notation), so if that is something that is important to you, condsider buying an HP instead. For everyone else, I highly recommend this calculator for it's ease of use and sheer functionality. Also of note to those considering this model: There is a German version known as the FX-991DEX that is available from Europe. It has added functions that I've heard were removed from the US version so that the calculator would be allowed for certain curriculum / exams. According to the Casio International website, the FX-991EX has 552 functions and the Casio Europe website shows the FX-991DEX version as having 696 functions. All in all an great calculator for very little money with the nicest display I've seen yet on a solar powered calculator.

Best Calculator for the SAT!!!
Best Calculator for the SAT!!! Because of the solving equations functions under MODE, this is the best calculator for the SAT exam. I also recommend the CASIO fx- 991ES PLUS. This calculator can solve systems of equations, and all three types of answers for quadratic equations. The COMPLEX numbers function is also extremely helpful. A TI-84 is a great calculator for graphing, BUT, you aren't graphing on the SAT exam. Get this calculator. I have coached over 200 students in the last 8 years and this and the 991 are the two machines I recommend. Love this for the SAT and ACT.

good enough...
Does calc, algebra, math - all very well. The use of the key pad takes a bit of time to get use to... One of the best key on this thing, is an independent delete key, for occasional mistakes that require single variable deletion... The (S - D) key sucks!! Every answer appears as a fraction, instead of a decimal. From: 1- 10? ...an 8.5.

It is much smaller than I expected and the key layout is something that takes some getting used to. It arrived early.

Superior functionality with readable buttons.
My daughter and I have several scientific calculators and this one is the most functional with ease of use. My favorite feature of the silver editions is the very readability of the buttons and little secondary functions printed above the buttons. I definitely recommend this if you have poor eyesight.

Great Calculator, Great Price
This is a very good calculator. I would be a great calculator at any price. However, it is also really cheap. It is also easy to use.
