Whistle Poor
The engine sound generator has a good sound but the whistle sounds like a code tone generator not a whistle, the pc board is well made, the directions could be better. If you have not assembled a pc board before, This kit is probably not a good choice.

Not recommend
Item was easy to assemble however the sounds do not sound like a train. The whistle only beeps like a alarm clock and the train sounds like a machine shop. As a electronic technician this was a waste of time.

Unhappy
I am unhappy with the sounds that this produces. White noise all the time. Not realistic. The steam engine sound would be fine if not for the constant hiss.

Instructions?
Although the packaging stated that instructions were included in the kit there were none. I was able to find a schematic on the web and can figure out the component values and locations, but the missing instructions could be a problem for novice builders. Otherwise, the quality of the parts and PCB are good and up to Vellman standards.
