SynopsisWhen Chef Anthony Bourdain wrote "Don't Eat Before You Read This" in The New Yorker, he spared no one's appetite, revealing what goes on behind the kitchen door. In Kitchen Confidential, he expanded that appetizer into a deliciously funny, delectable shocking banquet that lays out his 25 years of sex, drugs, and haute cuisine. From his first oyster in the Gironde to the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, from the restaurants of Tokyo to the drug dealers of the East Village, from the mobsters to the rats, Bourdain's brilliantly written, wild-but-true tales make the belly ache with laughter.

  • Amazing value and great read

The book arrived relatively quickly in good packaging. The only noticeable flaws are a slight center fold on the top of the front cover that extends about throughout the entirety book (not very noticeable in the latter pages of the book but present nonetheless), yellowing of the pages (to be expected), and more inconspicuous creases/folds on the edges of both the front and back cover. There was no writing in my copy, the book stays relatively flat, and there was no old book odor noticeable. The covers still have great color with no fading. Very good value and amazing read so far. Highly recommend this book if you're interested in the history of a phenomenal chef.

  • Great read for anyone interested in the restaurant business.

My highest recommendation! Great insights into how a great restaurant is run, how a kitchen functions with a high-level chef, and what made Anthony tick. Accessible read for anyone: I have no “foodie” background and I could follow this.

  • Bourdain's treatment is refreshing, shocking, disgusting,enlightening

Great book, stark views of restaurants from the sewers up Decidedly a young man's vantage point, NYC the set places Reminds me of Ben Jonson's play, Barthomew Fair ( set in England) - not for the faint of heart, restaurant eating will never be the same after Tony B.

  • I would definitely use thrift books again..

The description said the book was used but readable. It was old, but unmarked. I was pleasantly surprised.

  • At his personal best

This is a work through which Tony Bourdain and his shoot from the hip, no nonsense, brutally truthful, cynical, insightful, and interesting nature come through with resonant clarity. It is a must read for anyone who liked Tony and his perceptions of food.
