Quality Instrumental Music for The Civil War period but lacking if you're looking for lyrics...
Overall, this is a good purchase if you're looking for quality instrumental pieces for Civil War era music. However, if you want to hear the lyrics being sung then this is not the CD for you. I recommend running an online search for each of the songs with performing artist(s) as listed on the back of the case before buying. Youtube usually pops up with a picture of this album's artwork, while the music plays (so you know it's from this disk). Alternatively, Amazon may have an abbreviated playlist, which will also confirm what I'm explaining. When first looking into what we were hoping to buy, the old Confederate songs with lyrics were our primary interest. For example, Bonnie Blue flag and Dixie. Twenty-five years after Ken Burns's revelatory doc series "The Civil War," this soundtrack still gives me shivers. Yes, CD is a primitive digital format. This is a fantastic collection of music from the time of the War Between the States. It's a great resource for history buffs who want to know more about everyday life during this period of American history. Very interesting soundtrack commemorating the civil war.
