Good photos & videos, Impressive features, very good value, some extra steps and other issues
Takes very good photos. Once I got used to the differences with my old Lumix, it's not difficult to use, like inserting the memory card in the opposite direction. What I don't like are extra steps for some settings, especially the C1 setting. I have it set for Pets. With the old Lumix, when I turn the dial to Pets, I'm ready to shoot. But when I turn to C1 with the ZS40, it keeps asking me for the age and name of pet ... even though I have those settings shut off. (I complained to Panasonic about this.) If the dial is on the C1 setting when I turn the camera on, then it's ready to shoot. But I often don't think of selecting any setting at the time I turn on the camera. My other big problem is the location of the button to record video is way too close to the On/Off button. My fingers aren't big, but I have to look to see the button to hit. The first time I tried to stop the recording without looking, I hit the On/Off button and lost the recording. And if I look at the buttons, I lose sight of what I want to record. I also had to get used to hitting different buttons on the camera than I did on the old one, like the Record settings, hitting the "delete" button instead of the menu/set button. I've occasionally had problems with the flash, esp. when I'm shooting at 16x9. But usually that's okay. Other than that, it's a very good camera. The video results are great; still shots are usually great, although long distance shots of a couple of miles or even a block away can be problematic when I zoom in past 30 (it can go up to 60). But, I must add, I've gotten terrific photos of the moon in which the craters can be seen, zoomed to 50/60. In addition to liking my old Lumix (thousands of photos), I selected this Lumix because of the viewfinder. While I'm glad it's there, I rarely use it. It's much smaller than viewfinders used to be, and I can't see well out of it; the adjuster know is tiny and difficult for me to adjust. But it does come in very handy when there's sun glare. One feature I love is the ability to take a still photo while I'm recording video. That's really neat! But HD video seems to be only with 16x9, and I often like to shoot HD in 4x3. But as I said, the video quality is very good to excellent. I love the tiny tripod which came with this cam. I used it when I got the moon shots. The battery charger made this purchase a very good deal.

Good pictures with GPS capability
I was interested in buying a newer model of the Panasonic Lumix ZS series (the ZS60) until I discovered that Panasonic had dropped the GPS feature from the later cameras in the line. I'm not overly critical about photographic features - I generally depend upon the experts to say whether a camera is reasonably good or not. The Panasonic Lumix series gets decent reviews, with some dings for certain flaws that seem to me to be out of the ordinary use I will see. i've found the automatic GPS picture location feature to be useful to how I like to organize my photos, so I sought out the latest Lumix ZS that still had the GPS feature - the ZS40. eBay had this model (used) where stores did not. I'm happy with my purchase so far, although I haven't had the time to take more than a few test pictures and some random snapshots. I've included 3 photos taken under rather difficult lighting conditions: twilight outdoors, no lights on indoors, taking a picture of a pumpkin illuminated only by a candle inside of it, holding the camera in my hands propped on the table. The first uses the flash, the second and third don't. All three were taken with the camera on full automatic; no shutter/aperture priority or scene selection used. No zoom; I positioned the camera to frame more or less of the subject and to include more or less of the foreground/background and natural lighting.

Good deal...
So far, so good...also bought a Leica, similar model...different features. Performs as expected so far. l love that it has a view finder...Have to take it for a trial run to give a full review.

Wow! What an amazingly wonderful camera!
I purchased one, gave it a thorough testing, and was so pleased that I purchased a second one as a gift for my sister. This is just an amazing camera. I love it!

Fantastic Deal
I have been using a Panasonic Lumix camera for the past 4 or 5 years and was intently looking for another Panasonic when I chanced upon this opportunity. Brand new! In the slightly dented box at a savings of more than 50% of what this camera is normally selling for. Heck yes! Sign me up! Not only was the camera fantastic. So was the blazing fast FREE shipment and and delivery! Two days from New York to my hot little hands in California. Absolutely amazing! Was this a good deal? No! It wasn't even a great deal! It was a FANTASTIC DEAL!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 camera
The camera met all my expectations. The seller quickly mailed the item to me. Even though the camera is full of options it can be easily operated by a novice. However, to use the full benefits of the camera it is necessary to read the manual.

Northwest Pa-Allegheny Nation Forest- I got pictures that would knock your socks off--Name an animal from this area & I got them with this Panasonic--& zoom is Quiet too.
