  • For us long time Nikon shooters, this camera is a treat!

I am a Nikon system user; have been since the mid-seventies. I own several late model Nikon DSLR cameras, and many old school Nikkor lenses that I can use on this great Nikon Df. I'm still learning the ropes on this (for me) new camera and I'm amazed at its potentials. Most of my work is in the genre of fine arts photography, generally people pictures, so I look forward to what I'll come up with using this machine. You ask if it is easy to use...yes and no. I have a lot of experience with Nikon DSLR cameras, but still need to consult the manual on occasion. Could be that I'm old and analog, but it seems to me that every digital camera has its own personality and requires some getting acquainted time. The Df is a brilliant compromise, or should I say 'collaboration' between old school film cameras and digital cameras, and has very few limitations if you're a creative shooter. I'll be finding out for myself soon. Good camera!

  • Old School and New Tech In One Camera

If you liked the old-school SLR film cameras, you will probably like the Nikon Df DSLR camera. Most settings can be made from buttons and dials. With lenses that have an aperture ring, you can set ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed from dials, even before you turn the camera on. Yet, you do have two user dials, and that big beautiful screen like digital cameras. I use Nikon AF-D series lenses, so that I can set exposure before turning on the camera. I get autofocus which is faster than I could focus manually, and manual exposure based on my experience and depth-of-field preferences by pre-setting the dials. And the images will fill your screen or make gorgeous prints as big as a poster if you want. I bought mine used, so I can't even gripe about the price. Get one, while they last! 5 Stars

  • Splendid camera, if not for everyone

I have owned a number of Nikon DSLRs. They are all quite good. The Df is my personal favorite. I still shoot film and process my own, but that just isn’t very practical. There is also the issue of shooting in low light. The Df is a camera that isn’t too terribly different to shoot with than my F2s and has splendid low light performance. The files are beautiful and make excellent prints, but still aren’t too big. I never shoot video so I don’t miss the feature. I’m now on my second Df. I was using a D500 for a while and though it is an excellent camera I’m glad to be back to full frame and the Df feels like an old friend to me.

  • It's a DSLR for film shooters.

Buying this high quality camera used is a good value for someone looking to get serious with their photography. The 16MP sensor is still useful today. It's good for photographers migrating from film because the control layout will already be familiar. It is a good DSLR for anyone with legacy Nikkor glass because it will work with anything going back to pre-ai lenses.

  • Old style Outside High technology internally

This camera is light small and fast. For me is perfect. Is so intuitive I can shoot around fast. I do not miss the built in flash. iso control in my finger all time If anything i miss shutter speed 1/8000. If You are an old school picture taker who doesn't care about video and you have full manual setting You like this camera very much.

  • Great for old-gen photographers

Got this for my mum who grew up with a lovely Canon film camera. Because so much of the controls are analogue and the design is vintage-heavy it really allows older gen photographers a great re-introduction to high quality digital photography. It’s affordable enough that you can still drop a decent amount on a great zoom lense to take some fabulous photos.

  • A mini D4

What kind of photographer are you? If you for some strange reason use a DSLR to take video, stop right here and don't buy it. If you make a living out of photography and need a complex camera with every possible feature, then also don't buy it. This camera has a bit of a retro look. Yes, it is not like a F3 in size, weight, or simplicity, but you can't get all that with a modern day DSLR. Then, is $2700 too much for a stepped down camera? No, the way I look at it is that this is a Frank Einstein camera that can delivery pictures with the quality of a D4 for half the price! I'm into photography as a hobby, and I thought the retro looks of it are great. I know how to shoot in manual and can use all the appropriate knobs because I also own a F3 and FM3a, so the ergonomics and ease of use are no issue to me. If I wanted something that fits my hand better and takes pictures, I'd get a glove to hold my iPhone up... People don't like the focusing system from the D610. Well guess what? My last camera was a 610 so I didn't know better. I can still focus with it just fine, and most of the time I don't need AF because most of my lenses are manual focus. If 5.5 fps is too slow for you then you have other problems... I know the guys Digitalrev and Fro knows photo give it a harsh review, but then I go back to my first question: What kind of photographer are you? I think this is an amazing well valued camera, and pretty! It takes pictures with the quality of a D4, and most importantly it is a very intuitive camera because it has a lot les automated features. Therefore, more fun to shoot with. See if you can test one, or order one and return it if you don't like it.

  • The Nikon Df, an excellent bit of nostalgia

The Df works with dials familiar to anyone who used an old film-era camera, and without recourse to the menu, one can see how to set the most essential features: dial the shutter speed with one dial, the aperture with another, the ISO with a third. But modern technology will tell you how everything is set and is working. It took me three hikes before I was totally comfortable with everything. The Df has the same sensor as the Nikon flagship D4. The image quality with the two lenses I've used it with, the Nikon 70-300 and the Tokina 70-200 has been excellent Lawrence

  • Df

It holds its value well and to me it has the best balance of sensor resolution vs noise. Setting at neutral picture control with a notch on contrast creates a more film like image which I like at JPEG

  • Excellent Alternative

This camera has excellent image quality, nice size and weight and is very easy to use. If you're not printing huge enlargements then this is a great choice. Images are beautiful and clear.
