  • Better print than the american release

The print of the theatrical version is a bit better than the American release in my opinion. Slightly 'crisper' and doesn't seem to suffer from digital filtering. Honestly I only compared a couple of scenes but they looked better than my Universal American release. BE WARNED though: The Television 3 or so hour version looks pretty bad. It looks (during certain scenes) as if it was taken from a master video tape version. At it's best it looks like a well mastered DVD. It is presented in the original televised 4:3 aspect ratio unlike the American DVD of the extended edition. As a result you can see much of the screen that was cropped when they released the American version. I noticed this especially in the opening sequence with the goofy drawings depicting the history of the Dune universe. I'm unsure if it is actually cropped throughout. I am also unsure of what the key differences there are in the versions but am certain that this release has a a few scenes that I had never seen before. It is cut into two parts (I suppose how it was originally televised) each with opening and closing credits. I suspect from the little research that I have done that it may be the Korean version. Although I may be mistaken. The packaging is great and has a few weird little surprises. Hint: leave the Obi on and peek inside the empty box.

  • The classic Space Epic

A highly influential epic on a Star Wars scale but with better writing. It has amazing visuals that looks as fresh in 2015 as they did in 1984. The film is filled with quirks that will either make you a life time fan or an instant opponent. The adaptation is solid but with one piece of new technology added. Lovers of the novel(s) may be a bit down on that single aspect but I think it serves the purposes of the film better. If you love scifi, David Lynch or are a buff for pre-cgi special effects this is a must watch. The Japan only 30th anniversary edition comes with a cut of the film in no other version. I was put together by a french film director to French TV, its a director's cut but not by the original director... very unique. If you are already a dune nerd this is worth a look. The box art is fantastic, maybe the best version I have ever seen.
