Winner of the What Hi-Fi 2012 Award for Best On-Ear Headphones, the T51Ps are stylish and feature Beyerdynamic’s Tesla technology for deep lows and crisp highs. It all starts with the sound for Eugen Beyer’s Germany-based company. Their Tesla technology is found inside the T51P headphones. The drivers are engineered with a strong magnetic field that provides a high level of efficiency and low distortion. That "tightness" leads to accurate sound across all frequency levels, whether it’s rumbling bass or the shimmering treble of cymbals. The drivers are tuned for excellent frequency response, ranging from 10 Hz to 23 kHz. The commonly reported range of hearing for most people is around 20 to 20 kHz, though this can be expanded when conditions are ideal — the result being that with these headphones, you won’t miss a thing. These headphones won’t muddy up the sound spectrum by trying to overdo the bass, thereby blurring the rest of the audio, so you’ll get the dynamic sound of a rich low-end to your music, while still maintaining the audio quality of higher frequencies, such as voices. These headphones feature a closed design, which helps block out external noise as well. They even put a great deal of thought into the cable, which is coated with a satin finish to produce less noise in the headphones when it brushes up against something. Beyerdynamics knows that with MP3 players and smart phones being the most common sources for the average music listener these days, a good set of headphones still needs to be portable and easy to store. The ear cups swivel 90 degrees, which helps them fit better on your head, and also helps them fold up better when you’re stashing them in the nylon carrying case, which will fit easily in your bag or carry-on luggage. The ear-pads are covered in a soft synthetic leather and contain a viscoelastic memory foam inside, which makes them supremely comfortable for longer listening sessions as they will slowly shape to the contours of your ears for a custom fit every time. The metal headband is fully adjustable to fit all head sizes. The cable features a 3.5 mm connector, but these headphones can be used with headphone amplifiers as well with a 6.35 mm adapter. The T51P headphones have all-metal construction, so they’re sturdy and can withstand the wear that comes with a portable set of headphones. Very good sound but not very nice!
Some of the reviews that I saw before buying were talking about a predominantly bass sound. With my AK70 player, I do not confirm these comments. The sound is very balanced, and everything is there! OK, the AK70 is particularly a good player. On the aesthetic side, if I compare them to my B&W P3, I would say that it is not a success. From my point of view, the mixture of black and silver is not a good choice, certainly not for a portable use. It would have been preferable to use mainly the black. Exceptional Sound and Quality
