Worth the Learning Time
I've owned several great cameras, but am down to Canons and Panasonic Lumix ones now. I have the greatest control over my pictures with the Canon that cost 3 times as much, but the Lumix FZ70 does some things with light and with subjects that please me greatly. And now that I am familiar with how to access most of my options, I find myself calling on the Lumix more than any other. I had to take some time with it because getting just the right setting is slightly different, but now time isn't a concern. I'm finding that the pictures I get in low light, dusk, and from a distance are better. And the FZ70 tends to focus a scene noticeably faster. Using manual settings only, I'd choose the Canon for a complex shot. Please remember I'm comparing the FZ70 to a much more expensive camera, and I find the FZ70 gets the edge on zoom, zoom smoothness, image stabilization, and focus time, and creative color options. It's the most complete and best overall camera I've ever used for its cost. To get one better, I'd expect to pay about double. I got mine slightly used, and it works perfectly. Great camera for the price.
I especially like the 60x zoom and the picture quality of this camera. These are the pros and cons that stood out to me. Pros: Quick turn on time, about 1 second. Quick shutter button response. Stable anti shake, real nice when zoomed all the way in. It has a view finder and a hot shoe. It can take raw pictures. It takes pictures in low light very well. It can take panoramas as well. Cons: When taking a video, you can hear the anti shake in the audio, yes, anti shake can be tuned off. It can't do full HD video at 60 fps. It can't do very long exposers, it can only do up to 1 minute exposures in scene mode with scene mode set to "starry sky", in that mode it won't let you change the iso which is set at 100. Also with the camera in "S" or "M" mode the highest exposure is 8 seconds, it will only let you do 8 seconds if the iso is 400 or less, iso 800 the max exposure is 4 seconds, iso 1600 max exposure is 2 seconds, iso 3200 max exposure is 1 second. Pleasantly Surprised
I bought this camera to have a single, simple camera with telephoto ability that I could take with me anywhere in case I came across something I wanted to shoot. I have been taking photos of flowers, fall leaves and other things in my yard. I am very pleased with the quality of the photos, including close-ups of flowers and also photos of planes coming in for landing (our house is in the flight path of the local airport). I would recommend this camera to any and all. For the price, it produces great photos competitive with many DSLR or mirror-less cameras. Good replacement camera at a reasonable price
Purchased this camera to replace one of the same model. The other camera, about 3 years old, suddenly gave a blue cast to all images. Had all accessories and the other camera had been a pleasure to use and provided great photos. The 60X zoom will fill the frame with a full moon. The camera purchased included all the accessories pictured and all in like new condition. The camera works fine. A qoute I got online for repairing the older camera was $180, about what I paid for replacement camera. Another online repair service requires you to ship camera to them for an estimate. I'm not about to fall for that scam! I hope I can locate a reputable repair service and get the older camera repaired. great bargain camera with BIG Zoom
AT about $200 this camera is an excellent deal. It is not a true DSLR, but 1) it has a 60x Optical Zoom! 2) it has a viewfinder as well as an LCP viewer so you can shoot in daylight and see what you are shooting, and 3) it has almost everything in its menu that you'd find in an expensive DSLR. Great camera for me
I love this Panasonic camera. It takes great pictures and videos. The long zoom and the macro both work very well. It is a better camera than I am a photographer. It makes me seem more skilled than I am. I have mostly used the Auto mode for pictures and the video mode. It has a lot of other features that I have yet to use. Very satisfied
Even though I am not good at doing professional photography the camera is easy to use and easy to work with. It takes wonderful pictures and even goes beyond my expectations and takes great video as well. I used this to take pictures of the full moon and it brought it in very well. Also got wonderful pictures of planes at a Blue Angels Air show and it really was put to the test. The batteries last for hours especially considering zooming in and out repeatedly. Surprising Lumix FZ70
The Lumix FZ70 camera is lightweight and takes great pictures! The 60X telephoto lens takes nature photography to a higher level for us amateurs. One does require a stabilizer (tripod, single rod) for the higher magnification shots. Photos are crystal clear. Lumix DMC-FZ70KA
First off the zoom lens is incredible, it is the camera's greatest feature. I owned a previous generation of Panasonic's DMC Camera and loved it. It terms of lens quality and zoom length this one is far superior. The price at $133 used was also great. That being said the new camera is bigger and heavier than my old DMC, which is to be expected. The picture quality looks to be a shade bit better than my old DMC. However, Panasonic has updated the manual controls on the back of the camera over the past few years. For me, a dedicated button on the back to lighten or darken the picture, plus the ease of bracketing photos somehow got lost on this new camera. I miss it. It's one of those things where I think they over engineer some controls and they lose ease of use. Great Camera
This camera is one of the best for getting great shots of still image and 1080p video. The 60X zoom is really nice. The image stabilization is top quality.
