Complete explanation of WW1
Do you know how we became entangled in a war that didn't concern us? ....why war was originally declared? This documentary explains it all in 3 discs, by master story tellers. Written accounts. Actual footage of these terrible times is interwoven in this timeline...day by day progression. Many types of casualties including shell-shock, trench-foot, and infectious disease....letters from the front. Appalling trench warfare conditions and the outdated military tactics that sent thousands of soldiers to their deaths. Many new and terrible weapons created hell on earth, and the term NO MAN'S LAND was born.

Revealing look at WW1
There are so many documentaries about WW!. This one is very well done, and I learned many points I had not been aware of. The chapters & organization is very good. The images and film perfectly reproduced, considering the age of the film or photos. The music fine, and the program is mixed well with narration easy to understand over music or sound effects. I thought I was buying the BBC serioes, aired on PBS, with what I thought was the same title,but wrong, but not disappointed.

Well done, but laden with today's short-sightedness.
As with most PBS presentations, this review of The Great War - World War I - has many positives about its presentation. However, viewers ought to be aware that what they will see is a 100-year-old war as viewed through today's heavily weighted politically correct microscope.

A complete history of the Great War.
I watched this program when it first aired on PBS, and really enjoyed it. The program dealt with, not only the soldiers on the battlefield, but with the struggles back home. It gave you a complete picture of the era.

Excellent historical documentary
As someone interested in American history, I enjoyed this documentary very much. I feel it was a really interesting rendition of a very interesting era in American history.

Best Documentary Ever
Wow, what a great presentation. I would’ve paid twice as much for this film. It is very very good and I knew very little about World War I before I saw it.
