So bad it's funny (in a weird but good way)
This starts out as a promising Gothic thriller. Kitty and her fiance are vacationing with Kitty's aunt when the fiance mysteriously disappears. A few days later, the aunt gets a letter from the fiance, saying he can't marry Kitty unless there is a death. The aunt and Kitty track the fiance to his ancestral mansion in Scotland, which features a forbidding hedge maze. So far, so good...until the plot becomes ridiculous. The film has distracting and totally unnecessary narration by the aunt, so no suspense as to whether she lives or dies. The fiance doesn't act, he simply recites speeches. Kitty is frightened by bats...obvious rubber bats. When the monster finally appears...well, it's so offbeat & weird that I won't spoil it. The explanation is even crazier. This has got to be one of the stupidest movies ever...but somehow, I kept watching it. It was cheesy, but fun. Starts out serious, ends up silly, nothing inappropriate, can be watched by all ages.
