Great Series
Great series , superb actors , quite engaging to the end . My only wish was that they would have done a cross over episode or two with Sharpe's series especially since both were great series and actor's in both were well picked for their roles! An opportunity truly missed and I'm not alone I know in the wish!

Thrilling adventures with dashing hero
This TV series brings to exciting life the career and adventures of C. S. Forester's heroic character Horatio Hornblower. The cast was well chosen, the acting very good all around. The ships and the settings are convincing, and the action well-paced. I saw this series on A&E when it was new, and it holds up very well. Worth watching over and over, not only for the action, but the very well defined and engaging characters.

Addictively full of intrigue and adventure
Horatio Hornblower is a great story about British sailors and the challenges they face at sea. Each episode features a particular war-time challenge as well as personal challenge that the main character and his fellow shipmen must overcome. It is sometimes difficult to watch the character-building suffering they face, but there is always a satisfying ending.

any body that love to play pirate as a kid should love this set
I was a big fan of the old gregory peck version of horatio hornblower that I thought I would give this a try. I have been enjoying the disc . plenty of action, good stories and interesting characters.

Horatio Hornblower
It is an excellent story and well acted. The only complaint I have is I am hard of hearing and half of the discs didn't have closed caption. It is easier to follow the full story if I can understand exactly what each actor is saying.

A very impressive series which didn't disappoint in any aspect!
I loved my copy and my friend in America was just as impressed with the copy that I bought for him. The acting was first-rate through out the series. The very high production were very impressive. I don't see how the series could've better!

High seas adventure as a boy becomes a man in the British navy.
This series is high adventure on the early 1800's high seas. It delivers a feeling of what it was like in the king's navy of the time. Filmed on ships modeled after the ships of the time period it also gives an education on seamanship. The storyline begins with the teenage Horatio and continues through his marriage as a captain in the naval fleet. The romance of his of his life is the sea which makes the romance with his wife nearly nonexistent, but still warm enough to make him an expectant father by the end of the series. It is fictional set in history which has been reproduced with great attention to detail.

Honor, chivalry and courage
Honor, chivalry and courage--qualities that are missing in today's general culture are showcased in this series. Horatio is a wonderful role model for teens. I shared the films with my son years ago and missed the series (he took them with him when he reached adulthood and moved out) --so I re-bought and I was delighted to see them again. .

Fun to watch
If you like Horatio Hornblower, and high adventure, this should be up your alley. A very enloyable collection. I leave historical accuracy reviews to the experts. I could not help, however, wondering whether a Captain of a man-of-war would leave his ship to engage in a raid ashore. But such adventures make for good viewing. If you like swashbucklking naval adventure, I think you really enjoy this collection.

Along with Sharpe, one of the best TV series ever made.
Nice presentation case, the discs fold out like pages in a book rather than separate cases for each one. Much easier to access. The films also have English subtitles, which is VERY important for me.
