The 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro HSM OS is the first lens in the Contemporary category of Sigmas Global Vision. The Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 was designed to be the ideal all-purpose lens for APS-C sized sensors. With a great focal length and macro capability, the 17-70mm F2.8-4 is also equipped with a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) and an Optical Stabilizer (OS) for superior image quality. The HSM ensures quiet, accurate, and fast autofocusing while the OS compensates for camera shake when shooting by hand. The construction of the 17-70mm includes new TSC material (Thermally Stable Composite), which allows for increased durability as well a reduction in size by 30% compared to conventional models. Two FLD glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, are incorporated with one SLD element to reduce color aberration at the highest degree. The 17-70mm F2.8-4 Macro DC HSM OS is compatible with the Sigma USB dock for an increased level of customization. The perfect all-purpose travel lens, the 17-70mm F2.8 Macro DC HSM OS is a must have for any camera bag. Really good qaulity and value
I have a old T3i at home that needed a modern pickup, and this lens serves the purpose perfectly. Image and build quality are amazing. The zoom ring is a bit heavy, but the focus ring is buttery smooth when you need it, making it a breeze to use manual focus. Only point against the lens is actually more of a Canon issue, but noteworthy nonetheless, in auto mode the camera has a tendency to use higher ISO compared to Canon lenses.

Auto-focus is notably slow
This lens is a great upgrade from a kit lens with a wonderfully functional zoom range. You have a tremendous creative freedom with the zoom range and relatively wide, though variable, aperture. My only complaint thus far is how slow the zoom is--it truly TRULY lags. That said, as long as you aren't trying to freeze the motion of birds (which you shouldn't be with this lens) it's fine. I still highly recommend it.

Great lens at a great price!
This lens is a tremendous value. Image quality, large maximum aperture, quiet and fast focus, all at a great price point. I couldn't be happier with this lens!

So far, So good
It works quite well with the viltrox ef-m2 on the Panasonic Lumix Gh4. Sharp. Good in low light. Nice range. Kind of heavy on m43, but for the price and for my uses, it does the job. Autofocus is kind of buggy upon start up, but sorts itself out with a couple of snaps of the shutter. Overall I like it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, affordable zoom on Canon apsc or an adapted M43 camera.

Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary for Canon EF-Mount.
I only had the chance to use it on one shoot. I will tell you it is not the greatest lens but it is better than the canon kit lens I use with my canon 80D. It is a good all around lens especially for street shooting.

Quality Sharp and reasonably priced
Sigma in the last few years has done an about face with better construction, Optics and Mechanics. I own 3 of the newer contemporary design and I would recommend the new Contemporary lenses to all.

very good product. has become my work horse over my kit lens. I wish I could get deeper f/stop. (22 max). but the trade of is getting f/2.8.

Great pictures for cheaper range price
Sharp photos great range and good optical stabilizer. Only complaint is that the 2.8 aperature doesnt last very long and goes pretty fast up to 4.
