Product Information
Crank up the music and experience excellent sound quality with a Foton 6SN7 (6N8S) vintage tube and tube socket. A rare find, this vintage audio tube originated in the former USSR and was designed for amplification of low-frequency voltage. Made with a glass envelope, the 6SN7 is a double triode tube that comes with an indirect heating cathode. The tube socket type is rsh5-1, and the 6SN7 tubes have a black getter. The filament voltage is 6.3 V, and the filament current is 0.55-0.65 A. The anode voltage is 250 V, and anode current is 0.0055-0.0115 A, with an anode power of 2.75 W. They have an octal base. The base is also made of metal. The 6SN7 (also known as the Soviet 6N8S) vintage tube is quite a rare find. The 6SN7/ 6N8S was manufactured by the former USSR military plant, Foton, in Tashkent City. Foton specialized in the design and manufacture of electronic equipment, such as the 6N8S and other types, for use in electronic equipment for various purposes. The company is still in operation today and is the largest manufacturer of electronic equipment in Uzbekistan and one of the largest in the former USSR. Plant Foton was created in 1941 on the basis of evacuated plant electronic devices from Fryazino, in the Moscow region in Russia. In 1942, the plant began production of electronic generators and amplifier tubes in Tashkent. With the advent of television, the 6SN7 was well suited for use as a vertical-deflection amplifier. As screen sizes became larger, voltage and power headroom became insufficient. To address this, updated versions with higher peak voltage and power ratings were introduced. In 1964 the technology was totally redesigned when the company began to develop semiconductors (diodes and transistors), and they subsequently integrated circuits. In several areas of scientific and production activity, the company led the industry. The 6SN7 tubes were high-quality tubes that were produced all over the world in the 1950s and 1960s. While they had begun to become obsolete in the U.S. in the 1960s, such as the Sylvania or RCA tubes, it wasn’t until after the Cold War ended in 1991 that the 6N8S tubes would experience a sharp decline in Russia and the former Soviet states. However, they are still greatly appreciated by audiophiles. That’s why, since 2012, after global stocks started to run out, Foton began to produce vacuum tubes once again, such as the 6N8S, along with competitors, such as MELZ in Russia and others in China. While the 6SN7/6N8S was used as an audio amplifier in the 1940-1955 period, it usually is in the driver stages of power amps and preamps. This double triode vacuum tube was responsible for transmitting sound waves through ham radios used within the field. Available still today, either new or vintage, a Foton 6SN7 pair is a good way to achieve high-quality sound, making it a favorite among guitarists and musicians.Product Identifiers
