Very Handy Device
I found the Inateck FD2002 a very versatile device to have.
The docking function for SATA hard drives works great and simplifies utilizing SATA drives for the storage of files, backups, system images, whatever.
I had a couple of SATA drives I was able to reformat and recover for use as extra storage with this device
USB 3.0 makes data transfer very fast.
The clone function works great and pretty much flawlessly making this task a snap
A note, in the automated cloning mode the FD2002 seemed to abort the cloning process if it comes across bad sectors on your source hard drive.
I bought it hoping it would ignore those bad sectors and clone past them making the "system transfer off a failing hard drive" task automated (and easier) for me.
Now I don't believe, and I'm not an expert so please correct me if I'm wrong, that there is any device or software that will clone a hard drive with bad sectors so the FD2002 is doing just as it should by aborting the cloning process.
But using the docking function this device enabled me to get a working duplication of my failing hard drive onto an identical one (without bad sectors) along with all my original files and settings. Awesome !
I then promptly cloned that hard drive using the automated cloning process to another identical SATA drive as a backup system drive... all ready to install in the case and boot up (in case of emergency).
The FD2002 went through the automated cloning process flawlessly on two hard drives without bad sectors.
Very Nice !
Plus I can incrementally update the backup HD by popping it in the FD2002 docking station and using my backup program to keep it current and identical to what I currently have on my main PC
I could see where a PC technician as well as a novice would find this a valuable tool for the versatility it provides in dealing with what used to be difficult hard drive tasks.
Highly recommended. I give it two thumbs up !!
