Players return to the best-loved realm in all of fantasy literature for a new epic of monsters, magic, and brutal medieval melee, in Warner Bros.' Lord of the Rings: War in the North. The game follows three player-designed heroes on an original adventure through the lands of Middle-earth, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy and the movies that followed. In the main online cooperative mode, three players form a new Fellowship to explore and battle through the story together, controlling their own custom heroes. Character choices include Elf, Dwarf, and Human, each with innate strengths and weakness that complement the fighting styles of the other two. As characters progress, they may acquire more powerful weapons and armor, and earn experience that can be used to upgrade their abilities or purchase new ones.<br><br>Set in the time of Frodo's dark journey to Mordor, the parallel adventure reveals the previously untold legend of three uniquely able heroes who travel north to face the gathering armies of the evil Lord Sauron, in a desperate attempt to prevent them from advancing across the realms before the ring bearer can complete his quest. Intended for older players, the game's gruesome swords-and-sorcery battles are violent and fierce. Away from the story, a "Challenge Mission" mode presents a series of pick-up-and-play survivalist situations, designed to test tactics, teamwork, and endurance. War in the North was developed by Snowblind Studios, proven creator of action-RPGs based on established fantasy franchises, including Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest and the Baldur's Gate games for consoles.<br><br>Packaged with a specially designed ranger's quiver case to keep it all together, the War in the North -- Collector's Edition comes with a book of game art, featuring concept drawings of key characters and locales, and an "Inside Look" video including interviews with soundtrack composer Inon Zur and footage of live musical performances, along with the full game and documentation. The Xbox 360 version of the Collector's Edition also comes with Ranger of the North gear for Xbox Live avatars, including a set of armor, a quiver, and a bow.

Snowblind goes out with a bang
Much of the design and craftsmanship of the quiver is well made with the arrows acting as ends to the clothe map (a very nice touch). The game needs little reviewing this review is simply if you are on the fence about the EU version with the statue or this US version with the quiver and I had my concessions butt this was a better (and more original) collector's edition than most of what I've seen. the game and art book fit into the pleather bound front pocket and both are as good as any of the AAA titles available currently. The game is easily one of my favorites with its combat being a blend of hack and slash (they did baldurs 1 gate and both champions of norath remember) paired with dialogue choices similar to mass effect, but unfortunately didn't have the kind of sweeping effects as this seemed to be a start to a franchise someone decided part way through to terminate because someone caught wind the lord of the rings franchise hadn't had the mass appeal it once had. In short many of its ideas are well executed and its story felt like it was taking off before coming to an abrupt halt. Great couch co-op and loot make for more replaying and the combat not the story will keep you coming back for more.
