Attention demanding with excellent satisfaction
As I mentioned in a CD (3 set,) review of this sound recording, the music is very dynamic but well controlled. I would recommend that you set the sound listening level for voice, and then let the music take its course. The music conductor performs excellent control over his musicians, the superb chorus singers, and of course the main characters, all of whom are fabulous and engaging. Visually, the opera leaves nothing more to be desired, and this production looks more like a movie than a staged opera. The opera runs for 3hrs 4mins, but you will be unaware of time passing. I have never seen a better version of "Porgy & Bess," and suggest that I never will! This superb English production is opera at its very best .... and is thoroughly recommended. ***** 5 stars!!!
