It's not the Bolshoi, but it will do.
Like my review title says, it's not the Bolshoi Ballet Theater Orchestra, but Gergiev will do. For a total listening experience, the complete ballet is the only possible choice. Whether on Christmas Day or Eve, it's all the music one needs for an exquisite ambience of the occasion. Just put it in and press 'play'...then enjoy your evening or much of a whole day.

The Whole Ballet
Usually, when you see recordings of the Nutcracker, they feature the Nutcracker Suite -- the overture, the march, and several of the dances from the second act. This is the whole ballet -- the party, the battle, everything. The CD was packaged in a cardboard folder, rather than a plastic jewel box, and the artwork is a little odd (a photo of a wind-up toy dog with a ball), but the price was good, and the quality of the recording is excellent. This is the version I'll be listening to next Christmas and for years to come.

true audiophil recording
I have many audiophil CD, and hi res recording. This Cd is in top 10.! absolute neutral sounding,big-big music space...no harsch. I can see "tube recording,and minimal mixing" Opps !!! I now it is the best!

Pleasantly surprised!
This version was great! Very pleasantly surprised, as this is not a famous recording. Much more lively than the Ansermet recording and a little more emotional at times than the Dorati and / or Bonynge recordings.
