George Smith's The Chaldean Account of Genesis
Fascinating book published in 1876, thus superseded by modern research and yet an important personal account. George Smith writes about his own participation in the early decipherments of cuneiform clay tablets dating back more than three thousand years to Sumerian, Akkadian, and Hittite records, with emphasis on their influence in the writing of Genesis. I read it in a couple of days and now I am searching in eBay looking for other books on Babylon, Uruk, and Nineveh. It's all Smith's fault. My book order was delivered promptly and well-packaged.
