Great little radio, great price.
I bought this radio used on a whim, and I've quickly become a fan. I had heard of the G90 and done a bit of research but hadn't really decided to buy one. But I was looking for a small rig which could serve as base, mobile, and portable. And I found it in the G90.
This cool little radio gives you a lot for the money. Due in part to its SDR architecture and 24-bit ADC, it has a fantastic receiver. I find it to be quiet & sensitive on most all bands. As with most SDR radios, it features brick-wall filtering and it works very well in crowded band conditions.
I made several SSB contacts right out of the box, and all gave good transmit audio & signal strength reports. The built-in antenna tuner is fast, quiet, and from my experience very wide range. Maximum transmit power is 20 watts which is a good compromise between true QRP and the average 100w base transceiver.
In terms of features, the Xiegu folks have included all of the important ones and then some. The display is small but very bright & readable and shows lots of useful information - RX signal strength, TX power, SWR, Mode, Input voltage, VFO status, etc. and in addition a nice, fast updating 48khz wide bandscope and waterfall.
Build quality is excellent. The case is rugged, heavy, and dissipates heat well. Front panel controls are a bit small for some but they are well placed and easy enough to manipulate.
Xiegu has been very responsive to user suggestions and has been generous with regular firmware updates. This is in contrast to the folks at Yaesu, whom have not updated the firmware for their FT-891 & FT-991A radios for more than 2 years despite numerous pleas from everyday users.
The ARRL gave this radio a favorable review, and now I know why. Of course it will not be all things to all people, but in my case it certainly fills the bill and I can't find any major faults or show stoppers. Its a keeper :).
