Still one of America's finest Civil War books
After 60 years, Bruce Catton's trilogy on the Army of the Potomac remains some of the finest writing ever done on the Civil War. If I were to recommend to any Southerner of Confederate heritage one group of books to cover the other side of the story, I'd recommend this trilogy. Portions of it bring you to tears, esp. the section on Appomattox.

Bruce Catton's writing is wonderful.Catton His works, especially this one, are valuable in any format. this addition is the trilogy and the letters are a bit small. If you prefer larger print buy them separately.
