Can't go wrong with Sony
I find Sony is basically the "Gold Standard" for 8mm video. I used this player to transfer my analog Video8 and Hi8 tapes to a digital format on my computer via a UCEC Video Capture device. Fortunately, I still had a head cleaning tape left over from the late 1990's when I was still making home movies with my Sony Handycam. The play and recording heads do get dirty with extended use and need to be cleaned in order to produce a clear picture, so head cleaning is imperative. This particular unit (Sony EV-C200) really has everything I needed for playing my priceless 8mm home movies in their original quality, especially when using the S-video port which seems to produce a slightly better picture than the composite video out. Happy with the reliability and quality of this Sony player.

One of the best unit ever made, they are much more complex then a regular VCR, tough to find one that works 100% though. I wouldn't even consider buying one from anyone who didn't offer a return.

A good value in an excellent Hi8 video deck.
This Hi8 videotape deck looked like it was new old stock, not merely refurbished, and it works perfectly. The price was fair and it will enable me to archive over twenty Hi8 family videos in easily shared digital formats for us to enjoy for much less cost than services that do it professionally. The S-Video output lets me digitize the tapes at the highest quality.

Sony Hi8 deck
This tape deck is perfect for Hi8 and 8 Videocassette transfers to the computer for editing. The high speed rewind is appreciated. It has both S Video and regular output/input jacks.

Great product if you need it so badly you're willing to overpay.
Product works well, just as described. Comes with only the power cord, so quite expensive.

Hi8 VCR together with Elgato Video Capture worked for me!
So happy with this as it helped me to transfer all my Hi8 tapes, with the help of my Elgato Video Capture hardware!
