  • Nice little mixer

First of all, a warning about the adapter you use for this mixer. The PV6 USB takes a DC adapter. The PV6, which looks nearly identical to the PV6 USB, takes an AC adapter. If you use the wrong adapter, you will blow out the mixer. Be careful! Also, please look at the picture. There is a newer model which Peavey calls the PV6, and it's very different from the one I am reviewing. That being said, this is a very good little mixer, if all you need are a few channels! The thing I love about it so much is that, as small as it is, it has 4 low-noise high-quality phantom powered XLR microphone inputs! But, 2 of those inputs can double as 2 stereo line inputs! (Obviously, not at the same time, though.) If you want an extra stereo line input, you can use the FX return input, however without tone controls. So, this mixer, although it's very small, can accommodate a wide variety of configurations. The USB feature lets you record your mix, or act as a USB sound card to your computer. The contour button gives you a nice gentle boost of bass and treble; emphasis on the word gentle. The sound quality is just as good as the bigger mixers, and all the controls are laid out in a nice, logical manner. Please keep in mind that this mixer is a little brother to other mixers. Although it sounds great, there are features missing, like multiple buses, insert jacks, and XLR outputs. The construction is heavy and fairly rugged, and it looks like it can take some moderate abuse. The USB version's phantom power is only 15V, while the non-USB version is the full 48V. (Strange, but true!) The VU meters just don't have enough LED's. And, the detents of some of the pots are barely noticeable. But, these compromises are just what you get when you buy such a small mixer at a price that is smaller than the bigger ones. I'm very happy with mine!
