Great Laptop/Netbook Backpack
This is a great laptop/netbook backpack with all the extras you expect from a Wenger Swissgear backpack/ It has a good organizing compartment for writing instruments, business cards, cell phone, keys and other accessories. There is a separate compartment for a 8-9 inch tablet, two separate and easily accessible zippered compartments for your power supply, cables and other things requiring quick access, two deep side pockets, two water bottle holders, a Swiss Guard shock protected laptop/netbook compartment, and a large general storage compartment. The shoulder straps are shock absorbing and comfortable as well. The only negative is that it claims to accept up to 16 inch laptops, my 15 inch barely fits. An excellent pack.
This is the second buy of this backpack for me. The first was about five years ago and since then I have been loading it with about 25 lbs of computer gear, books, headphones and an assortment of personal items necessary for my work. I travel by air weekly and I pack and unpack this back several times each day. I use the water bottle pockets for a water bottle and an insulated coffee cup and this pack holds them securely. For air travel, I have attached two carabineers to the top handle, then attach another bag to them in order to hold my lunch, inflatable pillow and other items I wish to keep close while I stow this pack in the overhead compartment. Despite being loaded to the max, the straps have never failed and the zippers have only recently begun to fray. The bottom material has worn through and could have been repaired, but since an exact replacement was available, I thought it best just to retire my original. Still good, but not the same as 8 years ago
This is my third Synergy over the past 8 years. The first one I bought used to have the sternum strap, which I liked as it balanced and kept the backpack tight on my shoulders. This gadget was gone after I bought the second one. This last I bought, I noticed that most of the pockets (cell phone, light, pens) which used to have a strap on elastic band, they lost it on this version and this also was slightly disappointing. In terms of durability, I make an extensive use of it with my job loading it often with some 20 lb. Usually after 3 years the bottom starts chipping and it may lose few sewing stitches. It organizes all my tools very well so I have everything handy, but it is not water proof, everything gets wet inside with rain.
