HORNBY R2624 - OO GAUGE. BR 2-6-2-T 61XX CLASS LOCOMOTIVE 5157 & TENDER - WEATHERED EDITION. ITEM IS PREVIOUSLY OWNED BUT IT STILL APPEARS TO BE IN MINT CONDITION. A QUICK SERVICE AND A LITTLE LIGHT OIL.
I know Hornby have released a re-tooled version of the loco and on looking at it I am not sure it is worth the upgrade! This older model certainly looks the part, with working bumpers and very good detailing plus it is a little heavier and therefore pulls that much stronger. It is a good runner in both directions and with an analog controller its very slow speed running is very impressive (not got digital so can't say how it works on that)
I am stuck to understand why Hornby upgraded it other than giving it a larger worm gear acting as a flywheel on the drive motor i see no advantage especially as this model costs well under half price!! with a little extra work like adding real coal (a thing I do on all my locos) a little extra weathering which is my personal choice i thank this loco is right up there 5star
It was a quality second hand model in good condition at a good price. There are more detail versions now coming on the market but they cost a lot more so on a value for money this could not be beaten. The second hand market is very important for a railway modeler like myself who are retired and on a limited budget. The model is nicely weathered to represent a steam locomotive in working condition to which further personal detailing and weathering can be added.
