Excellent 3 chip lightweight HD camcorder
I own 2 Panasonic HDC-SD1 HD camcorders. I routinely use them for projects on my job and at my church. They use 3 CCD chips to capture 1044 x 1080 MTS movie files. The standard Panasonic battery lasts an hour, give or take. This Panasonic HDC-SD10 also captures native 1044 x 1080 clips using 3 CMOS chips, which consume less energy. Internally the camcorder allows you to select 1920 x 1080 at up to over 17,000 mps. It does this by internal extrapolation. Thus, recording at 1080i at the highest bandwidth, I was surprised that video footage seemed to be a step up from the SD1. I recommend to anyone who is serious about capturing rich color tone, to consider a 3 chip camcorder. When you bring your film into the editing environment you have more color to work with. Because the camcorder uses the same battery as the SD1, and because the 3MOS setup uses less energy, battery life is increased to over 90 minutes. Face recognition and tracking is better with the SD10. If you are working at a fixed focal length and lighting is constant, I recommend allowing the camcorder to focus on your subject, then switch to manual to get a smooth image on a fixed tripod.
