An excellent lens for the money.
The Canon FD 400mm f/4.5 isn't going to perform like the f/2.8 version but for less than a quarter of the price the lens performs quite admirably. If you are new to using extreme telephoto lenses this is a great one to start out on without having to make a significant financial commitment. The images are sharp and clear on the lens I got, however these lenses are in the 30+ year old range and vary in their condition so look for listing with good clear photos of the lens. Many in great condition can still be found for very reasonable prices. A great birding and nature lens for the hobbyist or for anyone just starting out in telephoto work. Thanks and enjoy!
