Written by a scholar for scholars on a post-graduate level, Pennington leaves no stone unturned without getting bogged down by the minutiae. By insisting that the canonical Gospels be approached from historical, literary, and theological avenues, Pennington provides a comprehensive proposal to derive the meaning of the central message of the gospel (112). Hoping that lives will be transformed and readers will become disciples and followers of Jesus Christ, Pennington's book achieves its objective.
